Dine on Greek salads, fresh seafood, souvlaki, and moussaka while savoring local wines. Provisions are available at major ports.

Culture & Heritage

Experience Cycladic culture at its finest as you explore fascinating ruins and Byzantine churches. Immerse yourself in displays at local museums and the famed Delos archaeological site.

Navigation Conditions

The Meltemi wind (Force 4-6) fills sails from July to September. Hop islands traveling up to 30 NM daily with frequent stops at sheltered anchorages.

Regulatory Requirements

Greek VAT at 24% applies unless the yacht departs from EU waters. APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) ranges from 30% to 40%. Greek-flagged yachts must maintain a transit log.

Currency & Payments

The official currency is the Euro (EUR). Credit cards are widely accepted in tourist areas. Cash is preferred on the Cyclades’ smaller islands and in tavernas.

Language

Greek is the official language. However, you will frequently hear English at marinas, by yacht crews, and in popular travel destinations.

Access & Transportation

Flights from major European and international airports arrive and depart from Athens International Airport (ATH). Helicopter transfers provide comfortable transportation to the islands.

Marinas & Berthing

Flisvos Marina in Athens, Mykonos New Port, and Paros Marina in Parikia are major marinas. At smaller islands, sheltered anchorage and smaller harbors are available.

Premier Anchorages

Top anchorages across the Cyclades include Ormos Kountourou in Kea, Kolona Beach in Kythnos, Kleftiko in Milos, Naoussa Bay in Paros, Santorini Caldera (stern-to mooring), and Vathi in Sifnos.

Insider tips

Expert recommendations for Greek Islands (The Cyclades)

Santorini caldera mooring is in high demand during peak season, so book well in advance. Early departures are recommended during the spring, summer, and fall as the Meltemi increases through the day. To avoid crowds at Delos, explore the site before 11 AM. Visit the smaller islands of Serifos, Sifnos, and Folegandros for an authentic Cycladic cultural experience. Purchase provisions in major ports where supplies are more accessible.
